Creating an Event - Instructions
  1. It is recommended to first write the event details in a Word document.
  2. Make sure you have everything you need, listed below:
    • Title of the event
    • Start and end date of the event
    • 'Abstract' (normally just the first two sentences of the content)
    • Content (this is the details of the event)
  3. Click the 'Create new event' button on top of the event listings, below.
  4. In the dialog box that appears, fill out the following fields:
    • Short Name: Enter the title of the event, but replace any spaces with an underscore ( _ ), so 'Example Event' should be written as 'Example_Event'.
    • Title: Enter the title of the event. Try to keep it short.
    • Repeat Event and All Day Event: Complete accordingly. If you uncheck 'All Day Event', you will be prompted to insert the start and end time of the event.
    • Start and End date and time: Complete accordingly.
    • Abstract: Copy and paste the first two lines from your blog post, or write a short description of the blog post, here. Do not worry about formatting.
    • Content: Copy and paste your blog post here. It should ideally be between 300 and 800 words. Do not worry about formatting.
    • Event Authors and Attendees: You can select more than one person by holding down the shift key. This is optional, so please feel free to leave it blank.
    • Categories: Select the most accurate category.
    • Status: Leave it set to 'Active'.
    • Publishing Status: Leave it set to 'Always Published'.
    • Is This Event Visible: Leave it set to 'Visible for everyone'.
  5. Click 'Save'. Your event will now be live on the 'View Events' page and in the calendar at the bottom of the sidebar on the left of every page. All members will receive an email notification within an hour alerting them to the new event.
  6. To send out an announcement to the community so that everyone receives an email alerting them to the new event, please go to the Send Out An Announcement page and follow the instructions. Please note that members will only be notified of the event if you send an announcement about it, as they won't be automatically notified after you create a new event. Please make sure to link to your new event in your announcement.
